A major PLUS of racing all over the place is getting to scout some local swimming pools for a quick pre-race splash. Sometimes I swim to train, but sometimes I just swim because I LOVE it! A few laps in the pool always help me cool off physically, and chill out mentally!
When I raced Rev3 Knoxville a few weeks ago I got to visit the student rec pool at the University of Tennessee:
The rec pool was actually the Volunteers’ competition pool before they built ANOTHER gorgeous 50 meter pool right next door. The “old pool” has a special place in my heart because it was the site of the 2006 Southeastern Conference Swimming Championships, which we won!! Yay!! Good memories!!
I wear my SEC Championship Ring on my ring finger so people think I’m married to a MAJOR Georgia Fan!
This past weekend was my first ever trip to Raleigh, so I had to rely on my super secret “pool locator,” also known as an iPhone. One quick Google search and few phone calls later and SPLASH! I got to jump into this beauty!
And just in case I needed ANOTHER excuse to hop in the pool, SMASH now has super cute swim caps!!
I love, Love, LOVE training in silicone swim caps because they take FOREVER to break or stretch out, keeping me looking SHARP in the pool! Want one? Check out Smashfestqueen.com or become my friend before December 25th because my Christmas shopping is DONE!
Happy Swimming! Go find a pool!

So when you visit these pools for a workout and are zipping through your workout do you notice other swimmers stopping and staring at you in amazement or do any of them try to race / keep up with you?
I’ve swam with some swimmers that hold a 1:16 – 1:20 / 100 pace (yes, I time them before I get in. Gotta know what I’m up against) and even those people I stop and watch to learn (they are fast to me).
Of course! The best part of visiting new places (and pools) is meeting new people!! And new swimmers are my favorite! Plus, great swim talent can show up anywhere!!
That is still a nice looking rec pool. I’ll bet it did bring back fond memories. Congratulations btw on your 2006 championship season and good luck with your pro career!
