Colorado Mini-Reunion!

by Haley on October 26, 2011

This past weekend the University of Georgia Women’s Swim team won their 75th consecutive home dual meet. That means the team hasn’t lost at home in more than SIXTEEN YEARS! How awesome is that?!

I’m so proud to have been part of a four-year stretch of that winning streak. While I was at UGA I got to compete and train with some of the greatest swimmers and people of all time. And while the current Swim Dawgs were busy keeping up the winning tradition, a few of us from the Class of 2007 were having a little reunion – Colorado style!

Friday night Mel and I jumped on a Denver-bound Boeing with plans to have a ridiculous amount of fun visiting our Georgia teammates-turned-Coloradoans, Kara and Kelley.

Added to the fun was a little bit of competition – Kelley coaches for the Colorado State Rams and another former Swim Dawg, Claire, coaches for the University of Denver Pioneers (along with Brian, one of our former UGA swim coaches – small world!). And wouldn’t you know, the two teams had a Saturday afternoon dual meet!

I was slightly biased toward the Rams since I actually went to Junior High and part of High School in Fort Collins, but I wore a University of Georgia t-shirt to be sure I was rooting for the winning team.

The Pioneers took the win points-wise, but I’m pretty sure Kelley’s post-meet GIANT Rice Crispy Treat made her a winner:

Another major highlight of the weekend was getting to join Kara and the Colorado Stars Swim Team for their morning sprint workout. The Stars are a crazy-fast age group team in Denver. In fact, team member Missy Franklin actually just broke the World Record in the 200 backstroke! These kids are FAST!

I can hold my own in a 2.4 mile Ironman swim, but I was a little nervous about sharing the pool with the speedy Stars. Luckily, Ironman hasn’t completely ruined my sprinting abilities and I managed not to do a single belly-flop while diving off the blocks! The team was full of positive energy and I had a blast swimming with them.

I had the BEST time in Colorado and am so lucky to have swum with such amazing people during my collegiate career. GO DAWGS!

Love you ladies! Both then…

And now…
